Lately, one of the more frequent questions we hear at Par-Kut relates not to the sizes or options we offer with our factory assembled security buildings and prefab guard houses. Conversely, the question is more like: “Do your security booths include any recycled material”, or, “Are there any LEED credits available when we specify a PAR-KUT modular guard house?”
The basic answer, we are pleased to report, is Yes, Par-Kut portable steel buildings and parking booths do contain recycled content. The number one reason our booths and guard houses are built from welded steel is the durability. The strength of steel is well established. A happy by-product of our booths being made of steel is that steel almost always has recycled content since the steel making process includes scrap steel being added to the mix. The actual percentage of recycled content of steel will vary with the process used (either basic oxygen furnace or electric arc furnace) as well as the producing mill.
For more details on the recycled content of steel itself, see www.recycle-steel.org.

If a location where a security booth / guardhouse is to be installed is within 500 miles of the mine where the iron ore was extracted, there can be some LEED credit earned. Further, some other materials used in Par-Kut booth fabrication and finishing can qualify for some LEED credit. It is best to talk with the factory before specifying the security building so the content can be properly certified prior to shipment.
